“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
Matthew 7;15-20 (Jesus' Words)
When you look at the number of times Jesus warned His Disciples against false Prophets it was one of the issues He warned them about more than any other issue. As well as the rest of the Word of God (Matthew 24:11 & 24, Mark 13:22, Luke 6:26, Acts 13:6, 2 Peter 2:1, 1 John 4:1, Revelation 16:13, 19:20; 20:10 are a few examples).
Jesus also commended the Church for testing those who say they are Apostles and are not and they found them to be false Revelation 2:2
A time is coming when people will hear Ephesians 5:11-13 more than they have in a long time. A lot of corruption is going to be leaving the house.
Acts 8:9-24 tells the story of Simon the sorcerer, and man that the people in their City called, "the great power of god." Because Simon astounded the people with magic arts. When Simon heard the Gospel he appeared to get born again and was baptized and followed Phillip the Preacher who was preaching the Gospel because Phillip was doing many miracles and Simon was all about the supernatural and miracle's...But he didn't seem to really understand salvation or have a genuinely repentant heart...But ohhhhh did he love the supernatural in fact he coveted it!
But when Peter and John came to Samaria after hearing people were being born again, they came laying their hands on the people so that they would recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit.
When Simon saw that the gift of the Holy Spirit was given by the laying on of hands, he wanted that authority given to him as well and he was willing to pay money to get it!
And why would he do that? Because then he would appear to be a "special anointed one" that had the power to impart the Holy Spirit, he wanted the gift and the authority to glorify himself because he loved that place of being called the great power of god. Simon had been operating out of the occult, and claimed to receive Jesus but only because he saw the power was greater than his own. He didn't want Jesus, he wanted power.
Peter turned and rebuked Simon when Simon offered money for the authority to impart the Holy Spirit, and said,
“May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could acquire the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Therefore, repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart will be forgiven you. For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of unrighteousness.”
That's right it was the gall of bitterness, which actually translated says "the gall of bitter jealousy"
After being rebuked by Peter, Simon said, "pray for me yourselves that nothing of what you have said will come upon me."
It is interesting that Simon didn't want to pray himself but wanted someone he viewed as "more anointed" to pray for him.
Whether we realize it or not this has played out in the Church many times in the last 2000 years. It's time to put this thing to bed. Judgement is coming to the house.
