DO NOT MERELY LISTEN

Like Poets
Jennifer Woodley

‘Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. The man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does.’ James 1:22, 25 (NIV).

Poets inspire, often their words move us deeply.

The most profound poets write and their words touch the recesses of our heart, so that something inside shifts, and we are never the same again.

Their words reveal to us a new way of understanding life, a higher plain of existence and we are all the better for seeing.

We too are like poets.

Each day we take the beautiful words of Scripture and write them like a grace-filled poem into our lives, to inspire and encourage others.

Poets don’t just write: they authentically live out the truths of their words.

God invites us to always let His Word become like poetry written and then played out in our lives.

As we listen to God’s words, take them into our hearts and respond to the truths we learn, then not only will we experience God’s blessing, but so will those who read the poetry we write.

Are others being changed as they watch us?

Are we inspiring and encouraging those close to us as we live out the script of God’s language?

What might God be inviting us to do at this time?

‘Heavenly Father I long to write the beautiful language of your Word into my life so that others will be blessed and inspired to follow you. Help me to do this well. Thank you.’
