THE GOD WHO NOTICES US

The God Who Notices Us
Cheryl Weber

When we come to the place in our lives where success, possessions, wealth, popularity, or anything of the world fails to satisfy, we are exactly where God wants us. God created us for a close personal relationship with Him. Seeking meaning elsewhere leaves us spiritual orphans. Jesus came to bring us home.

When Jesus walked the earth, he astounded many with his authoritative, wisdom-filled teachings and dramatic healings. Always walking in love, he never shied away from confronting self-righteous religious leaders who counted their traditions more important than the welfare of people.

Jesus spiritual revolution awakened hungry hearts, when He called they followed. Levi a tax collector, more commonly known as Matthew, was one of them. Tax collectors often extorted money over and above the Roman tax, lining their own pockets. Stealing money from his Jewish brothers, he rightly suffered their rejection and disdain. Meeting Jesus opened his eyes to the vanity of his pursuits.

In Luke 5: 27-28 we find,

“He (Jesus) went out and noticed a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax booth and He said to him, ‘Follow Me.’ And he (Levi) left everything behind and got up and began to follow Him.”
Levi had found something much bigger than earthly wealth and someone who looked past his reputation and sins to the emptiness in his soul. He realized Jesus loved him despite what he did, at that moment everything else lost its appeal. Levi’s life became so closely knit with Jesus, he later wrote one of the four gospels.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your unconditional love and forgiveness. Thank you that no one is too insignificant or too sinful for you to notice, forgive, and draw into an eternal relationship with you. Amen.
