LATE-TERM ABORTIONIST TO CONGRESS: BUZZ OFF!
Tells investigators into baby body-parts trade their questions are 'persecution'
Bob Unruh
A Boulder, Colorado, abortionist whose practices are coming under the scrutiny of congressional investigators already has delivered a response to a special committee’s request for information: Buzz off!
The U.S. House Select Panel on Infant Lives was established more than a year ago when a hidden-camera investigation revealed Planned Parenthood executives negotiating for higher prices for the body parts of unborn babies. The probe caught them explaining how they could adjust their abortion procedures to save the parts that purchasers wanted.
Planned Parenthood executive Mary Gatter famously told the undercover investigators during negotiations that she wanted to be able to buy a Lamborghini.
The problem is that profiting off the sale of baby body parts or adjusting abortion procedures to accommodate them violate federal law.
The panel, headed by Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., already has been looking into the activities of StemExpress, a California company that formerly bought baby body parts from Planned Parenthood and its chief officer, Cate Dyer.
The panel, which was assigned by Congress to investigate the evidence from the undercover videos, has started reviewing whether a contempt of Congress citation, with its accompanying penalties, would be appropriate in that case.
The investigation focuses on the videos released throughout 2015 by the Center for Medical Progress.
Now the Daily Camera in Boulder, Colorado, where Warren Hern operates an abortion business, reported that Hern had been asked for information by Congress.
He responded that he won’t comply, the report said.
“Hern wrote Wednesday in a response to the panel that he feels subjected to a ‘witch hunt’ and called Tennessee Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, who is chairing the investigation, a ‘shameless coward,'” the newspaper said.
The notice from Congress about the investigation was sent to Hern Nov. 2. It said there was an investigation into “the practices of second and third trimester” abortions and it requested information.
“Blackburn asked Hern to provide information on care for an ‘infant born alive’ and whether that’s ever happened at his clinic, what happened to the infant afterward, and the names of any people who cared for the infant. She also sought any death certificates or referrals to funeral homes related to the infant,” the newspaper said.
The letter from Blackburn gave instructions to Hern regarding how to respond.
“Hern wrote a letter back to Blackburn on Wednesday, noting that the congresswoman had not, in fact, included any instructions, but that her demands ‘are unreasonable and outrageous,'” the Daily Camera said.
Hern wrote: “To comply with any such instruction would be in violation of my Fifth Amendment rights and a breach of confidentiality of my doctor-patient privilege.”
He also charged that even the use of the word “abortionist” is a “vicious, despicable anti-abortion propaganda term intended to slander” those who do abortions.
“Nothing that happens in my office is relevant to your ‘investigation,’ a term which, in this context, is simply a euphemism for ‘persecution,'” he wrote, the newspaper said.
WND reported in September the congressional panel was considering a contempt citation after Dyer and StemExpress proved uncooperative in the investigation.
One of the videos showed Dyer admitting Planned Parenthood sells fully intact aborted babies.
Crushing babies
In the first undercover video released by CMP, Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood commented on crushing babies.
“We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact,” she said.
