GOD IS ENOUGH

God is Enough by Susan Barnes

"We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life ... But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God." 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

We wonder why bad things happen to good people. Job is said to be the oldest book in the Bible and it is this problem that the book of Job addresses.

God never did give Job an answer. To our knowledge he didn't even tell Job about the conversations in heaven which we read in Job 1 & 2. Nevertheless Job is satisfied because he experiences the presence of God and in the final analysis God alone is enough. The Hebrew word "El Shaddai" contains the idea that God is enough.

In the verse above Paul gives the reason why he experienced great hardships in Asia (v.8). It was so that Paul and his companions would rely on God and his resources.

It is a hard lesson to learn because often we think we can make it on our own without needing help from God or others. The world would tell us we can be anything we want, if we try hard enough. But the truth is we are so dependent on God we can't even take our next breath unless he allows us to do so.

God sometimes allows us to go through hardships and pressures so we learn to rely on him, and discover that even if God is all we have, than that is enough.
