PRAY FOR PROTECTION FOR LIERTY COUNSEL

Friend,

This week we have received violent threats.

And on Thursday, my wife, Anita, president of Liberty Counsel, received yet another threat.

We increased our security measures once again ... all because we fight for life and liberty.

For 13 years, Liberty Counsel has been a target, thanks to an organization whose stated mission is to destroy us.

The violent rhetoric used by this organization has put our staff and our mission buildings at extreme risk over the years and continues even now.

Liberty Counsel has had to implement extreme security measures to protect ourselves from violent followers of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

In 2011, the SPLC expanded its “Hate List” to include Christian organizations, which added Liberty Counsel, Concerned Women for America, American Family Association, and Family Research Council (FRC).

The SPLC repeatedly demonizes these organizations in fiery fundraising campaigns, painting Liberty Counsel and the others as a threat and lumping us in with violent groups, like the KKK. But of course, BLM and Antifa are not on the SPLC list because these dangerous groups agree with their ideology.

One year after the SPLC list was published, a madman attempted to execute all the staff at FRC. Another madman, also carrying a list of politicians who were also on the SPLC list, tried to execute the members of the Republican congressional baseball team.

And when our amicus brief helped overturn Roe v. Wade, Washington, D.C., police informed us that more crazies placed our DC office on a target list.

We decided not to wait until another SPLC-inspired madman took literal aim at our staff.

Now, in addition to being on the SPLC "Hate Group" list, the SPLC has hired a boatload of attorneys to bring a frivolous lawsuit against Liberty Counsel to bankrupt us. We need your prayers and financial support to stop this attempt to destroy us.

Since being added to the SPLC list, our staff members have been physically assaulted at public events.

We have received death threats.

Some of our staff members have received death threats against themselves and their children at their home addresses. We’ve received threatening phone calls. And our office in Washington, D.C. has been placed on lockdown.

We have reported every incident to the FBI.

But nothing, to our knowledge, has been done.

The perpetrators have never been caught or prosecuted.

Because of the SPLC’s hate-inspiring list, we have had to take extraordinary security measures to keep our staff members safe.

  • Active shooter drills involve trained security specialists to help our staff rehearse what to do in the event of an active shooter event.
  • Gun safety and self-defense training for our staff.
  • Physical security includes reinforced doors and entries at each of our buildings to prevent hatemongers from breaching the buildings.
  • 24/7 monitored security cameras have been installed at every location so that any breach in security can be immediately identified and mitigated.
  • Armed guards in our offices have been hired during heightened threat alerts.
  • Professional security details to protect our attorneys on their way to high-profile cases.
  • Secure homes to protect our families from credible threats.
  • Travel anonymously. We have even had to use assumed names when traveling to certain venues, especially on LGBTQ cases.
  • Cybersecurity. We upgraded to top of the line cybersecurity-protected devices and 24/7 monitoring protection. Our system is highly secure, and that security comes at a high financial cost.

And on Thursday, Anita received a threat indicating that the sender knew where she would be next week, and that he would find her.

We have taken extra security to ensure the safety of Anita and our entire staff

Like those called to rebuild the wall in Nehemiah 4:15-20, we will not be deterred.

On top of all this, the SPLC took over a frivolous case filed by Janet Jenkins, a lesbian, who sued our former client, Lisa Miller.

In 2016, Jenkins amended her complaint and added Liberty Counsel as a defendant.

Our legal team has spent more than 10,000 hours reviewing over 186,000 documents and taking 25 depositions that included over 11,000 pages of exhibits and 6,800 pages of transcripts.

Then, after engaging in all that time-consuming discovery, Liberty Counsel was forced to expend significant efforts preparing a motion for summary judgment that included a 174-page statement of facts and 142-page legal memorandum, all supported by nearly 6,000 pages of exhibits.

SPLC’s one-time spokesperson, Mark Potok, repeatedly made clear his organization’s mission, saying,

“I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them.”

Praise God, neither the SPLC nor their followers have been able to “destroy” Liberty Counsel or harm our staff members.

But now SPLC is trying to bankrupt us.

The SPLC is trying to sue us into bankruptcy, using “lawfare” as its latest weapon of choice. Lawfare is a method of filing frivolous litigation to harm the opponent and prevent them from utilizing their legal rights.

The intent is to keep the opponent buried in paperwork and to rack up legal fees to bankrupt the opponent they cannot beat with the facts.

Jenkins is irrationally demanding we pay 200 BILLION dollars in damages for an imagined crime we did not commit. Not even Bill Gates has that much money!

Hundreds of thousands of pages of evidence, as well as direct sworn testimony by the people who were convicted of the crime of which SPLC accuses us, proves Liberty Counsel is absolutely and unequivocally innocent of all the claims the SPLC makes in this case.

The evidence proves we did nothing wrong, but the SPLC continues its suit anyway, not because they think they will win, but because they want to destroy us financially by tying our attorneys and resources up with this frivolous lawsuit.

We need YOUR IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL HELP.

The cost and hours put into this case have been massively exorbitant. Help us defend against the SPLC’s hate by supporting our legal fund today.

Every donation made will be DOUBLED in impact by a special Challenge Grant.

Finally, please pray that the violence and evil in the hearts of our deranged adversaries be eradicated and replaced with the love of Christ.
