Eternal Worship

Jennifer Woodley

'And the four living creatures, day and night never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”' Revelations 4:8 (ESV)

The four living creatures around the throne of God never cease night and day to worship God.
They can't stop talking about the greatness and glory of the King.
They never stop talking about the goodness of who He is and what He has done.
In Heaven God's holy name is hallowed, honoured, praised, exalted and glorified without interruption and without end.

What do we never stop talking about?
In a culture that is self-absorbed and consumed with having more, we probably find that much of our conversation is about what we want, what we do and what concerns us.
We may find we spend our days saying constantly, 'I'm so busy', 'I'm so tired', 'If only I...' and 'I want'.
Rather than people whose words are marked by worship, gratitude and praise to God, our words are marked by whining, gossip, criticism and complaining.

It is worth taking stock, listening to ourselves and honestly assessing whether our words identify us as God's called out people whose words glorify God and are a continual sacrifice of worship to Him or not.

Do they reflect the selfish, complaining, dissatisfied culture that we live amongst?
Furthermore, do our words utter God's name in profanity, blasphemy, obscenity, hypocrisy and insincerity?
These attitudes and words directed towards God should not even be heard in His people.

Rather, let us be a people of worship, who offer unending, uncompromising worship of the living God, preparing us for Heaven where we will offer God worship and praise eternally.
