Free to Flourish

Free to Flourish – Jennifer Woodley

“You must catch the troubling foxes, those sly little foxes that hinder our relationship. For they raid our budding vineyard of love, to ruin what I've planted within you.” Song of Songs 2:15 (Passion)

What do we understand the 'little foxes' to be? What hinders our relationship with the Lord Jesus? What sneaks in to steal, rob and destroy the good work that our Saviour is doing in our lives? The foxes are the sins hidden deep within our hearts. These are areas of our lives where we have not yet allowed Christ to shine into.

And so we are instructed to catch the little foxes and rid our lives of them, but this is not a work we can do alone. Jesus will help us. He is ready to offer aid when we ask. We are in fact, not designed to do this on our own. John 15:5 reminds us of this very fact, “Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”

Our lives are a budding garden, flourishing under the Master Gardener's hand and His desire is to see the fruits He's planted in our lives, bring blessing to both Himself and others. The foxes keep the fruit of God's Spirit from growing within us.

Let's consider where the foxes are in our own lives, seeking to rob us of the loving relationship we share with Jesus. Wrong attitudes, false beliefs, ungodly behaviour and judgemental words are painful reminders that we need to confess our sins before the Lord and earnestly seek His help to right what is wrong in ourselves. Together, with Christ we can be free to flourish.
