THE SCOURGE OF ABORTION

 

Two children both started out life with their own mothers trying to kill them. Yet, one — because of medical care — has stood before some of the most powerful leaders in the world, while the other was relegated to die in a dirty linen closet. One baby had an extra chromosome ... and that was the only thing “wrong” with him. This beautiful baby boy survived an abortion attempt. He was past the point of viability. But the plan was to kill him. So, off he was sent to the “Soiled Utility Room.” Without medical care, he would die. He spent the next 45 minutes desperately fighting for his life all on his own. One woman, a nurse, learned about this horror and took pity, holding the baby in her arms so he wouldn’t die alone. She said, "He was too weak to move very much, expending all his energy attempting to breathe. Toward the end, he was so quiet I couldn’t tell if he was still alive unless I held him up to the light to see if his heart was still beating through his chest wall.” If this baby had undergone any procedure besides an abortion, he would have been surrounded by doctors and nurses, given the latest medical care and likely would have survived. But he wasn’t. And he didn’t. This didn’t happen in the back room of a dirty abortion clinic. No, this problem runs much deeper. This happened in a bustling, well-known hospital with 1,500 affiliated physicians caring for more than 100,000 people every year in Illinois. And it still is happening across America! There are zero punishments for these deaths in 32 states. Now that the Senate has invoked Rule 14 for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, I urge you to make your voice heard in this battle for innocent lives like this baby boy. Send urgent faxes to the Senate to pass protections for these children born alive. — Mat

Gianna was also born alive after an abortionist attempted to take her life. She was premature, injured and badly burned, due to the toxic and usually deadly saline solution intended to kill her. But one act made all the difference for Gianna. A nurse rushed her from the abortion clinic to a hospital where she received life-saving care for the next three months before going home with a family.

Because of the abortion procedure, her brain was deprived of oxygen, and she was left with severe cerebral palsy. Doctors said she would never be able to sit up by herself, let alone walk, run, jump and play like “normal” children. Yet Gianna defied the doctors’ predictions a second time. At the age of 3, she was even walking with assistance — and later went on to run marathons.

“I can walk, run, dance and jump. Maybe not as well as you or a lot of other people, but I do OK for me.” Gianna shared, as a 14-year-old kid.

Today, Gianna Jessen is a bubbly, talented and beautiful young woman whose singing and testimony have delighted, moved and inspired audiences worldwide. She has testified before Congress, the Australian Parliament and the British House of Commons. She has spoken with President George W. Bush, Prime Minister Tony Blair and had her story told by Pope Benedict XVI.

One baby received a name, medical attention, treatment and the opportunity to live … but the other did not.

The baby boy who was born alive and discarded is not an isolated incident. “In the United States alone, we’re estimating approximately 17,000 babies who have survived [abortion] and that’s based on survivals that get reported. We know that there’s some that do not,” say experts in a 2020 article. (emphasis added)

We need to be the change by urging U.S. senators to pass the Born Alive Act. Now that Rule 14 has been invoked, the bill can be voted on at any time. Contact as many senators as possible with your critical faxes now.

In case you may remember the Born Alive law passed in 2002, I want to clear up some confusion. While that law was a great step in the right direction, it has glaring loopholes.

The 2002 law said nothing to define medical care or what care must be provided. And most importantly, it has no punishments for medical staff who did not obey it.

The 2002 statute has no teeth. I know this firsthand because when we helped expose that this was happening in California in 2015, not a single abortionist was prosecuted for killing newborn babies.

The current version of the Born Alive Act closes these loopholes and provides real protection for babies born alive.
