ETERNAL RICHES

Eternal Riches

Jennifer Woodley

“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.” Luke 6:24 (NRSV)

The consolation that is found in the plenty of this world is poor indeed in comparison to the consolation found in God and His eternal treasures.
If we seek comfort and consolation in the riches and material abundance of this world and then neglect the gift of God – salvation in Christ - our reward will be short lived.
Why settle for less when there is an eternal storehouse of wealth awaiting in Christ?
What folly can be greater than to labor for the meat that perishes and neglect the food of eternal life?

Truly, the person who is poor in this world is the one who can really boast of the promise to come – their consolation will be found in God’s presence now and throughout eternity, and the glorious riches in Heaven He has prepared for them.
For as Jesus has said,

‘blessed are you who are poor for yours is the Kingdom of Heaven.’ Luke 6:20 (NRSV).

Let us realign our priorities.
Let us re-examine where our affections truly lie.
Will it not grieve us deeply to see that we have lost Heaven for a little pleasure and profit in this lifetime? Nothing more hinders a soul from coming to Christ than a vain love of the world.
And until a soul is free from it, it can never have a true love for God.
Herein lies our lasting comfort and consolation.

‘Father forgive us for settling for the meager offerings of this life when there are true riches found in You. May You alone be our salvation. Amen.’
