The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
The point here is that if a person rejects the authority of the Holy Spirit, that person will also reject the authority of the word of God. There is no way for God to change our rebellious, carnal hearts, except through submission to the Holy Spirit. Therefore, if we defy the Holy Spirit, there is nothing more God can do. This is the unpardonable sin.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matthew 12:32)
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you. (John 14:26)
