MUSTARD SEED FAITH

MUSTARD SEED FAITH

Gloria Pierre Dean

"Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you" {Matthew 17:20 NKJV}.

In the New Testament, Jesus uses agricultural metaphors to communicate with his followers.

In one parable or' spiritual story', Jesus speaks of a mustard seed.

"Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you" {Matthew 17:20 NKJV}.

The mustard seed is small.

It is alive and when planted, nature does its job.

With water's help, the seed firstly sends down roots as its anchor and then propels a strong stem upwards.

That eventually grows into a twenty-foot tree with branches.

This small seed has been compared to our faith by Jesus.

He means that we do not need a lot of faith to get things done.

Jesus does not look down on us if we start small.

Many Christians begin with small faith, their seed and the Light of the Word.

"The opening of Thy words enlighteneth, Instructing the simple" {Psalm 119:130 NIV}.

Add the power of the Holy Spirit and there is growth.

The seed grows and changes as it feeds on nourishments and absorbs water and nutrients.

A new Christian will initially thrive by small obscure steps like reading the Bible without understanding it all, yet they grow a strong stem, roots, and branches because of the Holy Spirit.

Stems must be strong, straight, not twisting this way and that.

Roots speak of unwavering faith, branches of spreading out and becoming more loving to others through acts of service.

Jesus mentioned the tiny mustard seed; therefore, we should deeply consider the layers of meaning in His message.

One of which is that the mustard tree's beautiful and colorful branches produce tender young sticks used as antibacterial toothbrushes, which contain properties that resist bacteria and plaque in the Middle East, Africa, and the West.

In a like manner, the body of Christ must grow throughout the world and have a positive impact on society.
