WE ARE TO BE SALT AND LIGHT

We are Salt and Light

Susan Barnes

“You are the salt of the earth … You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16

What does it mean to be salt?

Salt flavours and we’re called to be a positive influence in our world.

History shows that where the church flourishes the outcomes have been good for society.

People are treated with respect, children and the elderly are honoured and all life is treated with dignity.
This is an attractive option.

What does it mean to be light?

Light dispels darkness.

When we bring God’s light into a situation, we give people hope.

God can make a way through impossible situations.

As we let our light shine before others, they will see the hope and the peace that we have and be drawn to our Father in heaven.

Like bugs are attracted to light, so the light in us draws people to Christ.

The world often thinks of the church as merely a hospital where the sick and wounded go but the Church isn’t a hospital.

It’s an army with an infirmary.

As we go about being his salt and light, we will come across the sick and wounded and the church has a ministry to these people.

However, our real purpose is to attract others to Christ.
