THE UNCONDITIONAL PURSUIT OF GOD

The Unconditional Pursuit of God
Cheryl Weber

Have you ever sacrificed for a long time to buy a valuable item just for its high, intrinsic value?
It occupies a special place in your office or home, so you can admire it and feel fantastic about having it.

Has someone ever come to you just for what you could do for them?

Perhaps it was your child, a spouse, a friend, or a co-worker?

Otherwise, they often ignore you.

Not very helpful for a relationship, is it?

Seeking the Lord only when we need something from him and then going our way is like that second example.

Worse still is turning our backs on God if we don’t get from him what we think he owes us.

We are putting conditions on our relationship with him.

God is the most glorious, holy, and worthy being in the universe.

He is far more wonderful and infinitely more valuable than anything the world has to offer.

He created us in his image for fellowship with him. He showed us only grace and mercy rather than the judgment we deserved.

He came and dwelt with us as our Savior and died to restore us to right relationship and eternal life with him.

That was the greatest thing he could ever have done for us.

The Lord loves us unconditionally despite our behavior and he wants us to pursue him unconditionally, to love him just for who he is.

Jeremiah 29:13 says that if we seek God with all our hearts, we will find him.

This means that our hearts are filled with longing for him and a relationship with him alone.

There is room for nothing else, no other agendas.

As long as we are in his presence, experiencing his love, we are content.

And that, alone, is the greatest thing.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that I will seek you with all my heart until I find you, for you alone are God and most worthy of my praise. Amen
