Imagine participating in a sport and being encouraged over the years as coaches see your potential. Before you know it, there’s talk of college scholarships spurring you on to train even harder. But then, one day, things take a turn. Suddenly transgender men are competing as women right alongside you and they’re winning.
This is already happening in our nation. Thankfully female athletes are beginning to speak out. But let me be frank: the so-called “Equality Act,” if passed by the Senate, will create more and more situations just like this, and it will deprive millions of Americans of equality—leaving them with no recourse. Sexual orientation and gender identity would be elevated to protected classes.
Among the results:
- Women would be stripped of their existing right to single-sex accommodations in public restrooms, domestic violence or rape crisis shelters, drug rehabilitation centers, jails, homeless shelters, locker rooms, or group showers.
- Educators would be forced to become part of the propaganda apparatus of the state or risk losing their jobs and research funding.
- Employers and workers would be forced to conform to new sexual norms or lose their businesses and employment.
- Any notion of a right to conscience—a right which the Founders saw as the threshold freedom upon which all other freedoms rest—would be abandoned.
There will always be those individuals who think the loss of religious liberty is an exaggeration—just like they never believed the definition of marriage would come under fire, or that elementary age children would be taught their gender is fluid and can be changed. My friend, the slippery slope is not a myth. It is part and parcel of our sinful human nature.
But God, in His mercy, has chosen you and me for such a time as this.
Thank you for helping us sound the alarm in cause for freedom, and proclaim Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.
