The Bible, the Church, and socialism Dear Friend, I’m sure you’ve heard people argue in favor of socialism by claiming that the Bible teaches socialism—that Jesus talked about taking care of the “least of these my brethren.” He did, but there’s a world of difference between you and me being our brother’s keeper and the government being our brother’s keeper. Unfortunately, more and more Americans are buying into the latter, either ignoring or not truly understanding that the Biblical exhortations to help the poor, the widow, and the orphan are directed to us as individuals, and not offered as a pattern for human government. Couple that with the fact that too many Americans, especially young people, do not know the terrible history of socialism—its blood-soaked power grabs and the denial of fundamental freedom. That’s why I’ve written the short booklet When Truth Becomes the Enemy: The Insanity of Our Reckless Embrace of Socialism.
