FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE MUST BE WON IN EVERY GENERATION

Dear WND Reader, Two hundred forty-three years ago today, representatives from all 13 colonies who called North America their home came together at a Continental Congress in Philadelphia to draft and sign the Declaration of Independence. When King George branded them traitors to the British Empire, they were subject to arrest by British forces, stripped of their property, saw their families reduced to poverty, and some even lost their lives. It took an unbelievable amount of courage to do what they did because, by every measure, winning the American Revolution they began on July 4th, 1776, was by most accounts doomed to fail – but they did it anyway. I believe the Declaration is a divinely inspired document, and that its promise has been secured by the blood of patriots and blessed by God Almighty. But freedom and independence must be re-won by every generation. As my favorite president, Ronald Reagan, famously said: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. "It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” This is the inspiring message I ask you to remember as you celebrate Independence Day this year. In a very real way, you and I are among today’s freedom-fighters and torch-bearers.
