MAKING GOD KNOWN STARTS AT HOME

Hello Friend,
Ready for the holidays? I hope so.
Hey, I was recently asked what a good family devotion time should look like—especially for really young children—and I wanted to share my answer with you.
While each family has different dynamics and there is no one best way, I can offer three solid guidelines for parents conducting a devotion time with their families:
  1. Enter the child’s world. In other words, try to see the Bible passage through their eyes. Be engaging and animated. If the story is good, but your presentation is flat and dull, what do you think the child is going to come away with? The Bible contains the words of life—so convey them in a lively way!
  2. Keep it short and sweet. It’s far better that the child asks you to tell them more or to read another story than they start dreading your devotion time because you can’t keep their attention.
  3. Pray. End your time with prayer, and pray that God will help you and your children to apply the takeaway truth you’ve learned about. Have the children pray too, so that they know it’s a natural and normal thing to do, and they get used to talking with God.
Maybe this all sounds a little daunting to you. Maybe you need some inspiration to help you with family devotions. Well, help is on the way—and it’s found in a book that Cathe and I have personally used many times with our grandkids.
It’s called The Jesus Storybook Bible and it’s fantastic. It’s written by Sally Lloyd-Jones, who always finds a little bit of the gospel in each Bible story and points the child to Jesus.
We’re offering The Jesus Storybook Bible as a thank-you gift to anyone who donates to Harvest Ministries today.
“But wait! There’s more!” (as the TV announcer always says.)
This special edition of The Jesus Storybook Bible is especially cool because it includes a DVD and CDs of the Bible stories—and they are read by the amazing actor David Suchet. (You might know him as the actor who plays Agatha Christie’s famous detective Hercule Poirot. He’s not only incredibly talented, but he’s a Christian too.) So this is a really quality product that you and your kids or grandkids are going to love.
Order early to ensure delivery by Christmas. You can go get your copy by clicking on the button below.
Tom, I think if you start reading these stories to the children in your life, not only will they be blessed, but you’ll be blessed too. I hope you enjoy it.
Wishing you a blessed Christmas,
Greg
