Thank God I Knew The Lord
Ken Ebright
“Give thanks to the LORD because he is good. His love continues forever. Psalm 136:1” (NCV)
I came from a broken home. My mom was an alcoholic, and she committed suicide when I was 14 years old. She would constantly fight with my dad and one of the neighbors. I had learning difficulties, received bad grades in school, and many of the kids would pick on me. In the last years of my mom’s life, she was involved in several car accidents.
Life seemed to be a very hopeless situation.
The one good thing that gave me hope was when my parents would take me to church. I also went to a Christian school when I was a child. Being that I was so young, I did not understand everything that there is to know about Jesus. I did not know I could ask Him for help, but He still helped me get through various hard times in life.
He also put people in my life to help me. Later, after my mom's suicide, my dad remarried and gained a stepmom. She put me in a treatment program, which placed me on the road to a better life.
One of the things I am most thankful for is that I was able to get to know the Lord as a child. If I had not known Him, I might have ended up in jail or worse. The Lord is good, and because He loved me so dearly, He gave me many chances. Furthermore, He didn’t let me go down the road that could have led to my ultimate destruction. He was good to me then, He is good to me now.
Let’s remember all the good He has done for us this Thanksgiving and give Him praise for it.
