Attorney and former federal prosecutor Joe diGenova said U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is a “creep” who is “fundamentally dishonest,” in an interview on Monday.
Rosenstein, who is overseeing the Special Counsel investigation into supposed Russia collusion, reportedly suggested secretly taping President Donald Trump with a wire and even invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office, according to The New York Times on Sept. 21. Rosenstein will meet with House Republicans on Oct. 11 to discuss the report.
“Look, make no mistake about it. Rod Rosenstein is a creep. He is a dishonest, fundamentally dishonest – he cares about one thing, himself, his next job and his future,” diGenova said in an Oct. 1 interview on WMAL Mornings on the Mall, in Washington, D.C.
Later in the interview, diGenova compared Rosenstein’s relationship to “incompetent” U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions with Grigori Rasputin’s relationship to the Romanov family.
Rasputin was a powerful monk who supposedly held a large amount of influence over members of the Russian ruling family in the early 20th century.“And when you look at it, just – just think about this for a second, we’re talking about the deputy attorney general – where is Jeff Sessions?" said diGenova
"He is on a milk carton. This guy is so sad and so depressing to watch him twist in the breeze as an incompetent attorney general, and – and there behind him is Rasputin, Rod Rosenstein."
“This is an ugly period for the [Justice] Department, and it will not get better until both of them are gone,” he added.
Sessions has received criticism from President Trump for recusing himself from the Russia investigation due to an apparent conflict of interest and for his perceived lack of control over the Justice Department, according to many news reports.

Trump has said that he will meet with Rosenstein to discuss the comments reported in the New York Times story after Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process has ended, according to The Hill.

“Oh, I can assure you it happened. Even though McCabe is a sleaze-ball, his memos, for the record, everybody had possession of, they all knew this existed, that they’ve done everything they could to keep this from the House and the Senate so that Rosenstein would have to respond.
“Of course Rosenstein said these words. And this nonsense that when he said it it was a joke is – that’s a firing offense, to be joking about the 25th Amendment, given the circumstances of this presidency and what the Democrats have tried to do for it.
“Look, make no mistake about it. Rod Rosenstein is a creep. He is a dishonest, fundamentally dishonest – he cares about one thing, himself, his next job and his future.
“The president, of course, will keep him through the next, through the election cycle. Keeping him after that is an open question. Do you want to fire him and get rid of him and start all over again? Do you want to leave him there so you can – so you can force him to be fundamentally approaching honesty because of that?

“Listen, when you have somebody that’s that evil at the core of the Justice Department, you can have no system that functions well. I can assure you that the people in that building are in shock at the way he has managed things. And when you look at it, just – just think about this for a second, we’re talking about the deputy attorney general – where is Jeff Sessions? He is on a milk carton. This guy is so sad and so depressing to watch him twist in the breeze as an incompetent attorney general, and – and there behind him is Rasputin, Rod Rosenstein."
