A Marriage That Stands the Test of Time
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
Cars have what we often call idiot lights. You need to pay attention to those. If one goes off telling you that you need oil, make sure you get some oil. It might tell you that you need service. Another light might tell you that you’re running on empty.
I think there are some marriages today that are running on empty. Husbands and wives aren’t taking advantage of all the resources and power that God has given to them to have a blessed, happy, successful, and lasting marriage. A successful marriage doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because two people have put a lot of effort into it.
Sometimes we think marriage has a life all its own. Oh, they have a marriage made in Heaven, don’t they? Look at them! A couple determines whether their marriage is made in Heaven. They determine whether their marriage is strong or weak. They determine whether their marriage is successful or failing.
Our culture is, in many ways, hostile to marriage. In many ways, the family is under attack, and for good reason: the family is the foundation of our nation.
If you want your marriage to stand the test of time, then do what God says in His Word. It’s hard to believe, but my wife and I are closing in on forty-five years of marriage. We’re so thankful for the foundation we’ve been able to build our marriage on. I can tell you truthfully that I love my wife more today than I did when I married her, and I loved her a lot on that day. We’ve grown in our love for each other.
I believe that every couple can have a blessed marriage. But a strong and happy marriage is a result of obedience to God and His Word.
