WHAT NOW, AMERICA?

THE BABE IN THE BUNKER

WHAT NOW, AMERICA?

Exclusive: Barbara Simpson wallops cheap words, says action is what people want

So, our country is another year older and the variety of celebrations were held, weather permitting. It was hot in places, wet in others and chilly in some. People dressed in red, white and blue, along with their pet dogs taken to the varied celebrations. Flags were flown, although not in the abundance they used to be, nor were there as many parades.
Despite the fact that we have thousands of troops facing daily dangers around the world, the celebrations on the 4th were almost totally bereft of any signs of the military. It’s as though Americans today seem to think we have maintained our freedoms by being cute and passive.
Tell that to the 400,000 who lay in honor in Arlington National Cemetery, and all the other military cemeteries around the country and world for American war dead. Their families know better.
But there’s no doubt the mood of the country has changed. The most recent Gallup poll, released just before the 4th, showed that patriotism of Americans is at the lowest level since Gallup started doing this poll 18 years ago.
Asked how they feel about the country, just 47 per cent said they were “extremely proud.” Post 9/11, the totals ranged from 55 percent up to 70 percent. Over the years as we became involved in more foreign military engagements, those percentages dropped.
Not surprisingly, the figures show the highest support for “extreme pride in America” is among Republicans, the highest in five years. For the Democrats, it’s 32 percent.
Judging by the constant media attack on President Donald Trump and anyone who is part of his administration, it’s not surprising liberals will diss the country as a whole rather than the people they dislike and disagree with politically.
It’s a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water, and it’s clear many of them want to change the politics, the country and our future by erasing our history.
Consider this:
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without knowing how it happened. I no longer need to run as a presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform.” – From a 1944 speech by Norman Mattoon Thomas (1884-1968), leading socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.
He got that right and we are in the midst of that right now. How it will all play out is anyone’s guess – from predictions of violence to predictions of removing Donald Trump from office and not waiting for the next election.
Then again, such inflammatory rhetoric from all sides, reinforced by biased media coverage, may well have the opposite effect. The people who do not want our country changed, who do not want to gut the system that made our success as a free country, will not remain a silent majority. They see what is happening and are strengthening their resolve to put a stop to what is happening.
The most visible issue is that of our border and illegal immigration. It exists and the liberals think it’s OK.
They hear the new president of Mexico, Andre Manuel Lopez Obrador, say it is the right of people not only from south of our border but from all countries in the world, to go to the United States to “find a new life.”
Did you hear anyone get media coverage for objecting to that? Did you hear our president say anything about that?
But then came the Mexican election and Obrador won and soon after, the two men had a conversation.
We are told it was cordial – Did you expect anything else?
Obrador said there was a promise “to reach an understanding” and that we “need mutual respect and cooperation between neighbors.”
For his part, Trump said: “I think he’s going to try and help us with the border. I think the relationship will be a good one.”
What do I think? Schmooze, schmooze, schmooze!
It’s called smoothing the waters before any real dealing about reality goes on.
The reality is the border situation is horrendous and there’s no getting around the fact that the drug cartels are safely entrenched in Mexico, trafficking in contraband, drugs, and guns and people that they bring into this country on a regular basis.
Just reported last week, the Border Patrol in Arizona arrested eight illegals from Guatemala, including two teenagers being trafficked into the country for forced labor.
The same week, in Texas, the Border Patrol came across eight illegals from Honduras. Four were arrested, alive but in bad shape. The other four drowned in the river in their attempt to cross.
In another incident, agents stopped five illegals trying to get back into this country – two were gang members, two were convicted child molesters and the last had been charged with felony sex acts.
These characters had been deported, but that didn’t deter them from trying to get back in.
Think of the time and cost of our Border Patrol agents having to deal with criminals like this.
It’ll be interesting to see how the new Mexican president will solve the problem since his country allows these miscreants (and yes, criminals) to travel through his country, get to our border and cross.
Words are cheap – action is what most Americans want. We want the illegal crossings to stop, our laws enforced, and peace returned to our border.
