More Desirable Than Gold
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; . . . More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold.
Most of us look back at our high school yearbook photos in shock. We ask ourselves, “What was I thinking?” Things are always changing and shifting. Culture changes. Fashion changes. Technology changes. And of course, hairstyles change.
In contrast, God’s Word is always fresh. It’s always new. The Scriptures tell us,
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22–23 NKJV).
And not only is the Word of God always new, but it is perfect. That is in direct contrast to the flawed, imperfect reasoning of humanity today.
The Word of God is also a treasure. Psalm 19:10 says these truths are more desirable than gold. We should open the Bible with an attitude that says, “I want to see what’s in the Word of God for me today. How can God speak to me from the Scriptures?” The Bible is precious.
When you reach the last day of your life, you are not going care about a cool car. You are not going to care about how much money you have in the bank. You are not going to care about the size of the house you lived in. You are not going to care about your next vacation or the latest phone or the newest anything.
But I can tell you something that you will care about: You are going to care about what the Bible has to say. This is the Book that tells you how to get to Heaven. This is the Book that prepares you to know God.
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28 NKJV). If you want peace, joy, meaning, and happiness, it will come through knowing God’s Word.
