THE FIGHT FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY RAGES ON

This month, surprisingly in liberal California, a judge declared it would be “tyranny” to force a Christian to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Not only did Judge Lampe side with religious liberty, but he even commented that forcing a Christian to do something against their faith “would do violence to the essentials of Free Speech.”

While all Americans of faith can rejoice that a judge finally got this right, far too many of our Christian brothers and sisters, like Oregon bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein, didn’t have the same outcome. 

The Kleins lost their business after a judge ruled against their right to religious liberty and freedom of speech in their court battle.

And we can’t forget about Jack Phillips, whose fate will be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court this spring -- a ruling that is sure to impact the future of religious liberty in America.

While Judge Lampe’s decision in Cathy Miller’s case allowed her to save her business and her rights to free speech and religious liberty, all across the country we’re seeing judges side against these values that are central to our nation.

What’s interesting is that Cathy’s case was very similar to both the Kleins’ and Jack’s cases.

Cathy Miller had declined to make a cake for a same-sex wedding, just as Aaron and Melissa had done, and as Jack had done before them.

But, while Cathy was victorious, the Kleins were forced to pay a $135,000 fine and lost their business, and Jack Phillips was forced to cut off more than half of his company’s revenue and is still awaiting his fate from the U.S. Supreme Court.

We must rally together and fight for all Christians who have stood up for their faith so that battles across the nation are always decided in favor of liberty and free speech.
