I know, by the Word and the Spirit, that I am the recipient of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The biblical principle is that every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses: “One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established” (Deuteronomy 19:15).
This was well-known in Bible days, but in our world today, circumstantial evidence is not admissible—only corroborative evidence: two or three witnesses stating the same fact independently.
However, assurance is so important that God has given it a double anchorage in the rock of two faultless witnesses, both divine: the Word of God and the Spirit of God. That is God’s Word to you today!
