Let’s Not be Deceived

The rise in technology and social media has come with advantages and disadvantages. One major advantage is the spread of the God’s Word around the world. There are numerous sermons and videos online allowing people to share their understanding of God’s Word. That said, we need to be careful, not all of the information out there is rooted in the truth. 

As we seek to know God better, we should always filter teachings we hear through the Word of God. With a solid foundation in God’s Word and the help of the Holy Spirit, we can discern truth from fiction and know when a message is false. 

For example, the deceiver will not acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God who came in the flesh. He will also point us to our own works and away from salvation in Jesus by grace through faith alone. These are two foundational truths that cannot be negotiated. 

Like any counterfeiter, the enemy presents a mixture of truth and lies to deceive. 

Therefore, we need to know God’s Word and be cautious to whom we listen. It is a great idea to find out a speaker’s foundational beliefs about Jesus and salvation before listening to their message. As God’s ambassadors, we need to pay attention to what we read and hear. 

This is the truth, Jesus is the Son of God who came to the earth to save us by grace through faith alone. We should not forget, ignore or take this truth lightly but diligently stand by it. Our salvation and hope are centered on this truth.
