DON'T FORGET WHO YOU ARE

Don’t Forget Who You Are
 by Susan Barnes

"So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir." Galatians 4:7 NIV

One of the memorable lines from, The Lion King, is said to Simba by his father, "Don't forget who you are."

It is also good advice for Christians.

The Bible tells us we are children of God and co-heirs with Christ. Even on the days when we don't feel like it or act like it, we are still his children. Selwyn Hughes made this comment in Every Day With Jesus, "Spiritual poise comes from living by what I know about God, not by what I feel about him or about myself and my circumstances."

Living by faith means agreeing with God’s assessment, even on those days when our emotions disagree.

We know from the above verse and others how God sees us, but do we agree with it?

The devil would try to convince us otherwise and tell us we are unacceptable and unlovable.

But the choice is ours as to whom we believe.

Simba, in The Lion King, was the king's son even when he believed his wicked uncles lies and ran away. Eventually, Simba remembered who he was, returning to assume the privileges, and enjoy the benefits of sonship.

How much more awesome is the privilege we have of being sons and daughters, not of an earthly king, but of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

When we agree with God’s declaration of our spiritual standing, we can enjoy the freedom and benefits of our privileged position.
