"I AM ALWAYS WITH YOU"

Can’t You See?
Katy Foster

Two disciples walk down the road with Jesus and don’t recognize Him (Luke 24:13-29).

How could they walk with the Savior that had just died for them three days before, and not recognize Him?

It seems that just His voice or presence alone would uncover their eyes. Jesus was overjoyed to see two of His followers. He even gave the men an Old Testament lesson, undoubtedly with joy and love in every word, yet, still unnoticed.

In defense for the two followers, Jesus did have one significant difference adorning Him – He defeated death. Consequently, things were different.

The disciples responded kindly to this “Stranger,” offering Jesus their home.

Yet, even still, they did not know it was Him for some time.

They had other things on their mind, clouding their vision.

Particularly the fact that God’s plan didn’t happen as they had hoped.

Now, they feared for their lives. They had believed in Jesus, followed Him in faith, and now when things got tough, it appeared their faith had been in vain.

Consequently, they were wrapped up in themselves, in their plans, problems, worries and fears, to such an extent, they could not even recognize their Savior.

I wonder if an angel was tempted to stop them in the road and proclaim, “Open your eyes! He is with you right now!” What if you were there, and could clearly see that these men were walking with Jesus. What would you say to them?

Perhaps when Jesus was walking with these men, He thought of this very moment with you. He is with you too. Can’t you see Him?

“I am with you always.” Matthew 28:20 NKJV
