DEMOCRATS GO ALL OUT TO DEFEAT GORSUCH NOMINATION

I just got off of the phone with a source on Capitol Hill. Senate offices have been completely overwhelmed by calls, faxes, emails and letters opposing President Trump’s nominees. The panicked staffer I spoke with said he’s never seen anything like this. When I watched Vice President Pence enter the Senate Chamber to cast the deciding vote on Secretary of Education nominee Betsy DeVos, I knew right then it must be bad. Think about that, despite a majority in the Senate, our Vice President had to cast the deciding vote on a not-so-controversial nominee. Now imagine what is going to happen with Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch! To win, we must be TEN TIMES louder than all of the opposition combined. Judge Gorsuch is a worthy successor to Justice Scalia and if we want to protect the integrity of this branch of government for the next 20 years . . . have to act now. His nominee, conservative Judge Robert Bork, was rejected with several Republicans voting against him due to Ted Kennedy, the ACLU, NAACP and others creating a “solid phalanx” of opposition. Today, the same storm is brewing. The ACLU has already released this statement: Judge Gorsuch’s record, including his decision in the Hobby Lobby case, raises questions about whether he would allow businesses and individuals to opt out of nondiscrimination laws based on religious objections. And his commitment to an ‘originalist’ theory of constitutional interpretation that disregards our nation’s evolving understandings of constitutional rights is also of concern. The statement above should have a chilling effect on all of us. They want nothing less than an activist judge who will “interpret” the words of our Founding Fathers to their ideological favor. We can’t allow this to happen again. Please send a letter now and I’ll personally have it delivered to the Senate along with thousands of others that support a principled constitutionalist sitting on the Supreme Court.
