CONGRESSMAN: OBAMACARE ON CHOPPING BLOCK IN 1ST 100 DAYS

Process threatens Democrats' ability to filibuster

Bob Unruh
Obamacare was created by Democrats who deceived the American public, on a vote in Congress that included support only from one party, the Democrats.
Now, according to a congressman who will be in a Republican-led House working with a Republican-led Senate and the Republican Donald Trump when he assumes command of the White House in January, the Democrats may not even be allowed input when Congress kills it.
Or at least kills its components that are most offensive to Americans, the employer mandate, the individual mandate and the 30-hour work week requirement.
The Daily Mail reports that Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y., said there will be a fast-track process during Trump’s first 100 days to repeal Obamacare and it will be a situation “that would make minority Democrats powerless to stop it.”
The House already has voted dozens of times for repeal, but there has been Democrat opposition in the Senate where most issues require 60 votes. And, of course, of the past nearly eight years Barack Obama has been president and would have vetoed any significant challenge to what he considers his legacy legislation.
But Collins confirmed that the Republicans can use a budget procedure called “reconciliation,” which allows proposals to pass the Senate on a bare 51 vote margin, not a 60-vote supermajority called for in Senate rules.
