Imagine if the rule of law in America just disappeared.

It’s not that difficult to do.

In fact, look what’s happening in the U.S. today:

• Police officers fear for their lives as they are targeted for assassination by racists and anarchists, while being incited by the highest officials in the land.
• The former secretary of state and candidate for president broke espionage and national security laws with impunity while dozens of lower-level government employees sit in prison for lesser offenses.
• Duly enacted immigration laws are ignored by the sitting president, while he works with the United Nations to resettle unscreened “refugees,” nearly all exclusively Sunni Muslims, as the world is under siege from Islamic terrorism.
• The Internal Revenue Service, perhaps the most feared federal agency in the U.S., targeted individuals and non-profit corporations because of their political beliefs – and there were no consequences for those officials involved.
• Checks and balances on government power have been obliterated as an unaccountable judiciary and the executive branch of government exceed constitutional limits on their authority and Congress stands by and watches.
• The First Amendment’s guarantees on religious freedom is being obliterated as citizens of faith are coerced to violate the dictates of their conscience.

I could go on and on. There is almost no end to the examples. You know it. You see it. You feel it.

It’s hardly that there aren’t enough laws on the books. In fact, there are far too many. For the most part, the problem is non-enforcement or selective enforcement. The laws simply don’t apply equally to everyone.

And this is why the 2016 election is the most important one in American history.

Of course, every four years, someone claims the election is the most important one in American history.

But I’m suggesting we take that possibility seriously in the next few months.

There are no perfect candidates for any office. We’re all failed human beings. Presidents are not messiahs. But the choice this year will indeed determine whether America proceeds on the path of increasing lawlessness or reverses course.

The very character of America hangs in the balance. Will we return to the rule of law? Or will we continue down the slippery slope to the rule of men?

That’s the choice that faces us.

Is it the only issue?

No, it’s not. But it’s the overriding issue. It’s the issue that will determine whether America topples off the cliff. It’s the issue that will determine whether the will of the people will even be a factor in determining America’s future policies. It’s the issue that will determine whether future elections will even matter.

Do I exaggerate?

Well, you decide. Look around. Decide for yourself if justice is still blind. Decide for yourself if America is still one nation under God and the rule of law. Decide for yourself if true self-governance is still possible as the government piles more and more laws on the books and selectively enforces them so Washington can get anyone it wants to get and allow anyone it doesn’t want to prosecute to go free.

Decide if America is on the right course or if we’re hurtling toward a form of planned chaos.

Decide if America is following policies that are “sustainable” for liberty and prosperity.

Decide if it’s time to hit the reset button.

The choice facing America in 2016 is between the affirmation of a well-known, corrupt woman who believes she’s above the law and a candidate who seems genuinely determined to return to common sense, empowerment of people, the rule of law.

Would you like to live in a society where the police are hunted down and the criminals are treated like victims?

Would you like to live in a nation presided over by a criminal who avoided prosecution only because of her position and her political affiliation?

Or would you like to try something different?
