HOW CHRISTIANS CAN STOP AMERICA'S ABORTION HOLOCAUST
Exclusive: Jason & David Benham call on believers to 'get in ditches,' bring life to U.S. cities
Last Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade – the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in America.
Since that day, nearly 60 million innocent lives have been killed in our country. That’s 10 times more than in Nazi Germany.
As Christians, we have to ask ourselves, what are we to do? Do we simply “pass by on the other side of the street,” like the priest and Levite in the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), refusing to help the one beaten and left for dead? Or do we get into the ditch, like the Samaritan, and help the helpless?
So what are we – Christians in America – really doing while the spirit of death that stained Germany during the Holocaust now poisons our land today?
Unfortunately, most of us are doing the same thing most German Christians were doing at the time: nothing.
Growing up in a pro-life family, we met a lot of passionate pro-life advocates, one of whom was Penny Lea. Her stories were riveting, especially one she told after a speech she made at a pro-life event. She was approached by an older German man who wept as he told her the following story:
“I lived in Germany during the Nazi holocaust. I considered myself a Christian. I attended church since I was a small boy. We had heard the stories of what was happening to the Jews, but like most people today in this country, we tried to distance ourselves from the reality of what was really taking place. What could anyone do to stop it?
“A railroad track ran behind our small church, and each Sunday morning we would hear the whistle from a distance and then the clacking of the wheels moving over the track. We became disturbed when one Sunday we noticed cries coming from the train as it passed by. We grimly realized that the train was carrying Jews. They were like cattle in those cars!
“Week after week that train whistle would blow. We would dread to hear the sound of those old wheels because we knew that the Jews would begin to cry out to us as they passed our church.
It was so terribly disturbing! We could do nothing to help these poor miserable people, yet their screams tormented us. We knew exactly at what time that whistle would blow, and we decided the only way to keep from being so disturbed by the cries was to start singing our hymns.
By the time that train came rumbling past the churchyard, we were singing at the top of our voices. If some of the screams reached our ears, we’d just sing a little louder until we could hear them no more.
Years have passed, and no one talks about it much anymore, but I still hear that train whistle in my sleep. I can still hear them crying out for help. God forgive all of us who called ourselves Christians, yet did nothing to intervene.”
In 2015, Christians in America had the opportunity to “hear the screams” of innocent babies as Planned Parenthood videos circulated the Internet. Despite overwhelming exposure of the reality of abortion and the damning evidence of corruption within the industry, many congregations simply decided to “sing a little louder.”
Church budgets, creative brands, attractive messages and perpetual programs don’t flourish when abortion is mentioned. And even when it’s mentioned, or taught from a biblical perspective that God is the giver of life and Christians – as salt and light – are to protect it, very little is done to actually engage and do something about it.
But thankfully, there’s always a remnant!
In Nazi Germany, there was the “Confessing Church,” led by Christian men like Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Niemoller. These men refused to sit silently by and arose to be a voice for the Jews. They were persecuted then, but they are praised now.
The question is, will we do the same today for unborn children? Or more specifically, can we do anything to love our helpless neighbors as ourselves?
The answer is a resounding yes!
In Charlotte, we have hundreds of Christians who are faithfully ministering at three ditches in our city (abortion clinics), where upward of 1,000 babies are killed a month. And our approach is not a protest or demonstration, but a loving proclamation of life for abortion-bound mothers who feel they have no other choice.

The children in our cities are screaming out to us for help. Will we continue to sing a little louder?

That is the message that should be proclaimed in every Christian Church. The German Christians that "sang louder" experience the DEVASTATION of Germany along with all the other Germans.
