OBAMA SENDS U.S. TROOPS TO SYRIA

Special operations forces will 'advise and assist'

President Obama announced Friday a plan to send a small number of American special operations forces to Syria, marking the first time he’s sent in the ground troops to help the nation in its fight against ISIS.

Fox News reported he gave the go-ahead for about 50 special operations’ forces to go to Syria.

The troops will “advise and assist” in the fight against ISIS, a U.S. official told the Guardian.

The troops are going to northern Syrian areas controlled by the Kurds.

The United States will also deploy A10 and F15 fighter jets to an airbase in Turkey, as well as consider establishing a Special Forces outfit in Iraq to target ISIS terrorists and ISIS leaders.

CNN reported Obama gave permission, too, for the Pentagon to bolster military aid to Jordan and Lebanon in order to fight off ISIS.

The U.S. troop presence doesn’t mean Obama’s moving the military into a more combat role, however.

A White House spokesperson told the Guardian: “We have no intention of changing our broader counter ISIL mission to train, advise and assist local partners in the fight to degrade and destroy ISIL. And we have no intention of engaging in long-term, large-scale combat operations, the likes of which we previously saw in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the same time, though, we’ve also said our ongoing process includes intensifying efforts that are successful.”

Josh Earnest, White House spokesman, also said in a press briefing on Thursday the Obama administration has no intention of changing its overseas’ military missions to those of combat.

Still, the announcement of U.S. ground troops is a significant strategy shift for Obama, who has long resisted any type of military intervention that went beyond air assaults and aid. The growing threat of ISIS, however, has pushed him to reconsider and American troops will be deployed i the coming days.

My comments: Why is Obama doing this now? ISIS is Sunni as is the Muslim Brotherhood, whom Obama has favored until now. Iran is Shiite, and hates the Sunnis, whom they have fought for 1,300 years since the death of Muhammad. This also means the Assad remains in Power; the Assad Obama said must go. The Russian are also in agreement with this move as it helps Assad whom the Russians want to remain under their influence.
