FAITH UNDER FIRE
FRANKLIN GRAHAM: KIM DAVIS FIGHTS 'FOR ALL OF US'
'Ripple effect exactly what we feared from Supreme Court ruling
Franklin Graham, Christian televangelist to the world and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse, said Kentucky clerk Kim Davis – who’s been jailed for refusing to hand out marriage certificates to “gay” couples due to religious objections – is actually fighting the First Amendment good fight for the rest of America.
“Kentucky Clerk of Court Kim Davis was jailed by a federal judge … because she refused to put her name on marriage certificates for same-sex couples,” Graham wrote, on his Facebook page. “This ripple effect is exactly what we feared would result from the Supreme Court’s disastrous ruling in June.”
Graham referred to Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee’s characterization of the clerk’s situation as “the criminalization of Christianity,” as reported by WND, and said the Constitution is supposed to uphold the religious freedoms of all Americans. But as the Davis case points out: It’s under attack, he said.
“As Kim fights this battle,” Graham said, Inquisitr reported, “she is really fighting for religious freedom for all of us. Let’s continue to pray for her and that judge David L. Bunning [who ordered her to jail] will have a change of heart.”
Bunning at first announced Davis faced a week in jail. But he later amended that to say she could face an indefinite amount of time behind bars, so long as she fails to follow the court order to issue licenses.
Fox News reported Davis refused to resign from her role as clerk, for which she’s paid $80,000 a year.
Huckabee, meanwhile, has organized a rally for Davis for Tuesday in Kentucky.
“We must defend religious liberty and never surrender to judicial tyranny,” he said, in a widely reported statement.
