and observing seven-year cycles. Each cycle would culminate in a
Sabbatical year,2 known as Shemittah,3
literally: “to release.” In short this is a practice where debts
are forgiven every seven years. But for countries it can also mean a
resetting. For
America this has been a sign of God’s judgement on our country.
September 11, 2001 happened on a Shemittah year. Seven years after
that was September, 2008, the day of the single greatest market crash
in American history. In each of these occurrences Americans have had
the arrogance to say “We will rebuild,” instead of being humbled
into repentance.
