Ken Blackwell: Obama is ‘Weakening the Family and Attacking Religious Liberty,’ Like in ‘Totalitarian Regimes’
Best-selling author Ken Blackwell, who is the former treasurer and secretary of State for Ohio, said the Obama administration is pursuing policies that increase dependency on big government, expand the welfare state like in “totalitarian regimes,” and is deliberately seeking to weaken the family and undermine religious freedom.
“This administration has grown the government, increased dependency on the government and lessened the self-sufficiency of America’s families,” said Blackwell during a June 22 interview on the Joe Miller Radio Show.
“So, every day I try to make the case that this rapid expansion of the welfare state under the Obama administration is not unlike any of the welfare state expansions, totalitarian regimes, throughout human history,” said Blackwell. “And those regimes have done two things – again, whether they have been to weaken the family and two, to silence the church.”
“Sure enough,” said Blackwell, “that’s what the Obama administration is doing. He’s weakening the family and attacking religious liberty.”
Blackwell, who served as Ohio’s secretary of State from 1999 to 2007 and was the mayor of Cincinnati in 1979-80, also was an undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
Continuing with comments to host Joe Miller, Blackwell said it was ironic that Barack Obama, the first black president and who hails from the land of Abraham Lincoln, i.e., Illinois, is attacking religious liberty in America, the primary freedom “that has made us an exceptional nation.”
“We’ve grown as a human community, as a democracy, into the most prosperous, diverse, human democracy in all of human history,” said Blackwell. “It just seems counterintuitive to me (and to former Attorney General Ed Meese) that a nation that was founded upon folks who were willing to cross the ocean, fight the trials and tribulations of a new land and the wilderness, so that they, in fact, could have religious freedom, would now have its first black president -- who prides himself on being from the state of [Abraham] Lincoln -- turn his sights on attacking the very thing that has made us an exceptional nation.”
Blackwell, 67, currently works as a senior fellow for Family Empowerment at the Family Research Council. Among his best-selling books is The Blueprint: Obama’s Plan to Subvert the Constitution and Build an Imperial Presidency. Blackwell is married and has three children.
