A Person of Faith by KC Lemmer
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with endurance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith...” (Hebrews 12:1-2a NIV)
Almost a year ago, feeling anorexic in my faith, I wrote the words, "A person of faith" on a piece of paper and taped it where I would see it daily.
I wondered if God were shaking His head sadly at this little brittle-boned faith figure. It was a season of testing and change while people around me bombarded me with words of disbelief and discouragement.
I had spent too much time listening to them while attempting to live off of yesterday’s faith. Comparing myself to those courageous people of faith described in Hebrews 11, who obviously were fit in their faith, I felt like a mockery. Romans 10:17 states, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ" (NIV).
Taking a tiny step of faith, I used the words I'd written, "A Person of Faith" as a declaration. I chose to fix my eyes on Jesus and made a conscious effort to be different to those around me, I nervously laugh to think of that "great cloud of witnesses" watching me (an undernourished faith runner) run, but still I will run, and maybe by the time I reach the finish line, my body and mind will be strong. Person of faith, run your race!
