In the midst of the ongoing push from the Islamic State terrorist group to widen their control over areas across Iraq and Syria, a grave warning has come from British anti-terror officials regarding the group’s latest efforts, and we all should take notice.
According to the UK Mirror, terrorism experts are warning that if the Islamic State is able to overtake the Syria-Turkey border town of Kobane, it would likely be the start of World War III. Doing so, they say, would allow them to infiltrate European countries disguised as refugees in which they could then carry out attacks in Western nations, prompting the West to take action against them to protect their nations.
The problem, according to Britain’s former foreign minister and ex-chair of the Security and Intelligence Committee Kim Howells, is Turkey and the game they’re playing. Turkey views the Kurdish as a larger threat than the Islamic State, causing them to make decisions that are favorable to the terrorist organization.
“They allow Isis fighters to move into Syria but they won’t let the Kurdish do the same to defend Kurdish cities because they consider the Kurdish to be a greater threat than ISIS,” he said. “They think ISIS the lesser of two enemies despite the fact ISIS are willing to kill people in France, Germany and Britain.”
The threat the Kurds pose to Turkey, according to WND, is their wanting to create their own nation using the energy resources in the area.
The Turks have resisted assisting the Kurds since Ankara for years has been battling the Kurdish Workers Party, or PKK, which seeks to carve out a portion of the border countries to create Kurdistan.
For Turkey, the Syrian and Turkish Kurds occupy valuable oil resources sought by the energy-deficient Turks.
In addition, the Kurds have an alliance with the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad, whom the Turks want to see overthrown in favor of a Sunni-run government.
According to the Mirror, the idea of IS using Turkey’s porous border as an avenue to carry out attacks in other nations is a very real possibility.
