'GOD-LOVING AMERICANS' CONFRONT 'FILTH PEDDLING' SATANISTS
Tens of thousands voice opposition to 'Black Mass' in heart of Bible Belt
Promoters of a ‘Black Mass’ satanic ritual planned in Bible Belt capital Oklahoma City say they have “sold out” all 88 tickets to the event scheduled for the municipal Civic Center Music Hall Sept. 21.
But tens of thousands of people have signed two different petitions calling for the cancellation of the controversial activities. TFP Student Action, which works to defend “moral values on campus,” has announced a public “act of reparation” at the city building at the time of the “mass.”
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin summarized the general reaction to the plan in a statement: “This ‘Black Mass’ is a disgusting mockery of the Catholic faith, and it should be equally repellent to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. It may be protected by the First Amendment, but that doesn’t mean we can’t condemn it in the strongest terms possible for the moral outrage which it is.
“It is shocking and disgusting that a group of New York City ‘satanists’ would travel all the way to Oklahoma to peddle their filth here. I pray that realize how hurtful their actions are and cancel this event.”
WND previously reported the events are organized by a satanic group called Dakhma of Angra Mainyu, which has leased space in the Civic Center Music Hall.
City officials said the event will be held to local and state laws, but it would not be stopped.
“All activities during the event must abide by our local ordinances and laws, including laws that govern nudity, lewd acts, ritual sacrifice, as well as building codes for open flames,” city officials told WND. “The Civic Center Music Hall is not underwriting this event in any way, nor paying for outside advertising. Individuals wishing to attend must purchase a ticket to get in.”
But many people – well over 170,000 as of Tuesday – contend it shouldn’t go on.
The petition by TFP Student Action, which will hold a prayer meeting at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Oklahoma City prior to the protest at city hall, is directed to Civic Center Music Hall official Stephen Sharpe, Mayor Mick Cornett and Fallin. It states: “With my whole heart and soul, I express full, complete and vehement rejection of the satanic ‘Black Mass’ scheduled at the Oklahoma City Civic Center on September 21, 2014. I urge you to cancel this event which offends 1 billion Catholics worldwide, 200,000 Catholics in Oklahoma and countless more God-loving Americans. Sacrilege is simply NOT free speech.” It has some 80,000 signatures.
A second and separate petition to city officials, at CitizenGo.org, already has collected 88,784 signatures.
It states: “We write you in order to voice opposition to the Black Mass scheduled to take place Sept. 21 at the Oklahoma City Civic Center. A Black Mass is intended as an attack on another religious group, namely Catholics. The ceremony revolves around the desecration of the Eucharist, which requires that a Host be stolen from a Catholic church. The organizer of the event admitted to stealing a consecrated Host. Although he has now returned the stolen Host, after facing a lawsuit on behalf of the archdiocese, it is clear that his intention to defile stolen property in a government facility should raise questions of basic appropriateness. While the Constitution protects freedom of expression, it does not protect stealing property from others and desecrating it. We implore you to take a stand in favor of public decency by canceling the Black Mass.”
The Daily Oklahoman reported said the “Black Mass” has created “a veritable firestorm.”
The report said the mayor’s chief of staff, Steve Hill, said the office has received 1,000 emails protesting the event’s presence at a city facility.
Archbishop Paul Coakley said: “I am calling on all Catholics of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City to counteract this challenge to faith and decency through prayer and penance,” and Bishop Edward Slattery said, “As a part of satanic worship, a Black Mass attempts to invert the action and meaning of the Eucharist in order to mock Christ’s sacrifice and worship Satan through an orgiastic ritual of pain and perversion. It blasphemes everything which we hold as sacred and redemptive; and the spiritual dangers it poses ought not be dismissed. Since the Civic Center has not responded positively to the pleas of the archbishop of Oklahoma City not to host this event in a taxpayer supported public venue, I am asking the faithful Catholics in the diocese of Tulsa to fight this blasphemy through prayer and fasting.”
The National Catholic Register reported a lawyer said the city facility could have complied with First Amendment issues and still rejected the “Black Mass” because of its “hatefulneses” and “violations of community standards.”
“It’s one thing to allow different religions to come in and celebrate their religion. It’s a whole different thing to allow a group to come in that seeks to desecrate and insult another religion,” Michael Caspino of the Busch & Caspino law firm told the organization.
TFP Student Action released a statement: “Every Black Mass is a direct, deliberate and sinful act of hatred against God. Typically, a consecrated host is stolen from a Catholic Church and then used to desecrate, mock and insult the Catholic Mass. The Person of Our Lord Jesus Christ is attacked in a most vile and unspeakable manner. These insults against God are not only offensive to Christians, but also repulsive to everyone of good will.
“When government buildings open their doors and allow a satanic ‘Black Mass’ that offends God so deeply, it begs the question: Are we still one nation under God?” the statement continued, “To invite Satan into a community is NO joke. It’s a terrible sin that brings devils to the earth and provokes God to withdraw His graces and blessings.”
WND reported another satanic group, the Satanic Temple based in New York, had planned to hold a Black Mass on the campus of Harvard University in May. But the event was canceled after an onslaught of public outrage followed national media attention. The Archdiocese of Boston also fought the event.
Catholics are not the only group expressing outrage about the prospect of a black mass being held in the public civic center of a Bible Belt town like Oklahoma City.
Harry Mihet, vice president of legal affairs and chief litigation counsel for Liberty Counsel, said Oklahoma City should not allow its public facilities to be “used by a satanic group for the sole purpose of mocking, insulting and offending other faiths through a lewd and lascivious ceremony.”
“The perverted sexual deviance characteristic of a ‘Black Mass’ ought to remain in the dark tombs and catacombs where it originated, and should not see the light of day in a civilized society, much less on public property,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Washington Times reported the Satanic Temple will distribute pamphlets to students in Orange County, Florida, schools under a policy that allows religious materials to be handed out.
“We think the responsible thing to do is to ensure that these students are given access to a variety of differing religious opinions, as opposed to standing idly by while one religious voice dominates the discourse and delivers propaganda to youth,” said temple spokesman Lucien Greaves.
