Are you Breathing - Praise the Lord!

Are You Breathing? – by Sharon Dow

As an author, I’m steeped in ‘who, what, when, where, why, and how.” This morning while reading Psalm 150, I discovered that our praise should follow this model.

Who? Verse 6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. That is all inclusive. Early in the morning we hear the birds doing just that. How much more should we, as God’s special and ultimate creation, praise Him.

What? Verse 1 – Praise the Lord. That is not a suggestion; it’s a command.

When? No time limit is given but from the Psalm we can infer that we should praise God all the time.

Where? Verse 1 – Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. The word sanctuary may refer to our places of worship and to our bodies. When we receive Christ as our Saviour, He lives in us so our bodies become the temple of the Holy Spirit. We should also praise Him in His mighty heavens – under the dome of our sky. That’s just about everywhere!

Why? Verse 2 – Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. The scope of this verse is enormous. The Bible is filled with His acts of power beginning with creation. He is greater than creation, greater than anything man can imagine. Our God is immense.

How? Verses 3-4 – Praise Him with the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise Him with the strings and flute, praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals.

So I ask you; Are you breathing? Then praise the Lord!
