After more than 50 days of war, there is unspeakable suffering in Israel |

My heart is breaking as I write you from Jerusalem this morning. The people of Israel have been under attack almost non-stop for more than seven weeks now. Aside from a few days of tenuous cease-fire, on average, more than 100 rockets and missiles and mortars have been fired into Israel each day. Many times, since we have been here, the warning sirens can be heard going off, forcing people once again to take cover. There is considerable debate over whether it is safe to start the school year here on time next Monday, or whether it should be delayed to protect children from being caught in the open during an attack.
I can't imagine my precious grandchildren having to face a threat like that. But that is the reality of life. A little four -year-old boy was killed by a mortar in southern Israel the day we arrived. The suffering here is beyond description, and we must do our part to help those in great distress |
