Over the past decade, we have witnessed unprecedented challenges both within our borders and among some of the most despotic regimes across the globe. There is a growing and malignant pressure on America to set aside her spiritual compass and core beliefs only to yield to a false narrative—a politically correct, but unprincipled version of itself and one that embraces all philosophies as equally good and morally upright.
The same individuals who cry out for tolerance, respect and freedom of speech, in turn show none; rather, they seek to subjectively impose their worldview on any who oppose them. The warnings signs are all around us. Are you aware of them? Can you see them? And if so, how will you respond?
We must not allow America to passively succumb to the very postmodern ideologies that have been historically challenged abroad or that are in direct conflict with our founding values. This intentional and strategic effort on the part of godless and anti-faith groups has been underway for decades. However, we have now arrived at a perilous tipping point. We were silent when prayer, the Bible and the Ten Commandments were removed from our schools. We slowly acquiesced to the morally neutral pulpit in our churches. And sadly, too many of us have been mere spectators on the sidelines of life and culture, watching powerlessly as America plummets into a rapid and almost unbelievable moral decline. Some of our most sacred institutions like marriage and the family are being wrenched from their moorings and redefined before our very eyes. We have lost our bearings and EACH OF US MUST DO OUR PART TO REVERSE THIS TREND.
The evidence to make traditional values irrelevant and even unconstitutional is everywhere you look. Americans are now being fined by their government on matters of faith, legislated against in the courts, reprimanded or fired from their jobs, and sent home from school for simply adhering to their moral convictions—in some cases, for merely saying, “Bless you” after a fellow student sneezes. Even as I write this, across many other parts of the world, extreme persecution, even death, is the common response to all who hold the very same biblical convictions. Where is the outcry? Where is our national voice that defends the helpless and disenfranchised?
Governments, laws and public policies most certainly DO reflect a clear value system. The question you and I must carefully and prayerfully consider is, “Whose value system will they reflect?” A people without morals or a set of absolutes, have no reason to limit themselves or strive for unity, good behavior or the sacred principles of freedom.
Simply put , America without a Judeo-Christian influence will cease to exist as we know it.
In the United States, we still have the upper hand –our rich spiritual history and a majority of praying Americans who have the skills, determination and influence to make the required shift. President Reagan’s, “A Time for Choosing” speech, is eerily apropos today. Never have his words sounded a more clarion call to all those who are listening, “If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth.”
Although significant damage has already occurred in the attempt to fundamentally change this nation, if we engage in unity—one purpose…one will…one voice—to realign with our faith-based principles, we can most assuredly save this “city on a hill.” In the spirit of our Founders, we must determine to be “all in” to preserve America as a nation of laws that ultimately reflect God’s standards, not man’s wavering opinions, thereby creating a nation of self-governing, moral people. Unity, peace and order within our borders make us strong so we can once again be credible and transformative advocates for righteousness throughout the world.
Good government and policy alone will not save us. Good laws will not solve our problems. However, they will help create an environment where true liberty is cultivated and where truth will win out.
History records tragic examples of cruel and godless regimes who have attempted to force the worship of God underground and into hidden places. Ask the seven million Jewish people about the Holocaust in Nazi Germany—seven million dead, dissidents who recall their experience in Soviet gulags during Stalin’s purge—30 million dead, Chinese believers who were trampled in the Cultural Revolution under the oppression of Mao Zedong—60 million dead, or even the innocent victims now in the path of ISIS—hundreds killed already. Let’s not be so naïve as to think that it could never happen in America.
The solution is simple. Turn to God for help and commit to being fully engaged in the public square, government entities, business organizations, education systems, media outlets, and the entertainment industry. If we are not the influencers, what is the alternative? Either you and I are impacting the culture around us or the culture is the driving force.
I remain confident and resolute there is still a majority of praying, God-honoring Americans who love the Lord and our country–ordinary citizens who will choose to press in now so we can secure freedom for the generations to come. May fear, ignorance or apathy never be causes for relinquishing our God-given freedoms. Let us resolve to do all we can, while we can.
