Be Transformed By The Renewing Of Your Mind?

What’s On Your Mind? - By Denise Ferrell

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 (KJV)

When watching a courtroom scene on a television show, have you ever noticed that the judge will sometimes tell the jurors that they are to disregard a statement that has just been made? How is that possible? How do you “un-hear” what you have just heard? Though they may disregard it, and though they may strike it from the official record, it would seem almost impossible for it not to affect the thoughts of the jurors.

When we have a problem, how hard is it to focus on God instead of our problem? With God’s grace, I must make a conscious effort to consistently remind myself to get my eyes on Jesus and off of my circumstances, fears and obstacles. Once I have my thoughts on Him, I’m not finished. That problem, with its strength and persistence, is immediately trying to make its way back into my thoughts. If I’m to strike these unwanted problem-related thoughts from my mind, I have to ask the Lord to renew my mind and keep my thoughts on Him. He may do that with a hymn or a gospel song. He may do it with a verse of Scripture. We do have to deal with our problems, but they need not have possession of our minds.

Lord, help us keep our thoughts on You – not on our problems. Amen.
