Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe that just three weeks ago, our lawyers and I linked arms with David and Barbara Green as we descended the steps of the Supreme Court into a sea of protesters and cameras.

Planned Parenthood had organized a rally in support of the government's position and their supporters were shouting and jeering at us.

But our side was louder, shouting “HOB-BY LOB-BY” and applauding the brave owners of Hobby Lobby.

They knew that the Greens have taken a brave stand and taken a lot of heat for all Americans who want the right to live their lives according to their beliefs.

And our side wasn’t just making noise outside the Court. For weeks leading up to the oral arguments, some of the most prominent thought leaders in the country spoke out and lent their names in support of Hobby Lobby, the Becket Fund, and religious liberty.

Pastor Rick Warren defended the Greens in the Washington Post, writing that, “Faith is something you live by…It is personal, but not private.”

Princeton professor, Robert George, and co-founder of Zaytuna College, Hamza Yusuf, reminded Americans in the pages of the Wall Street Journal that America has enjoyed an unprecedented religious diversity and harmony due to its centuries-long history of “nurturing a robust understanding of religious liberty that includes granting certain exemptions to people who need them in order to be true to their religious faith.”

And Professor Helen Alvare called out the Obama administration’s attacks on religious liberty as anti-woman. She wrote for USA Today that our government “treats women as one-dimensional victims needing the protection of government-as-big-brother.”

These were just a few among a crush of voices standing up for the Greens and for our long-cherished, constitutionally protected principle of religious liberty.

Oral arguments are over, and now we wait. But in the meantime, we aren’t slowing down. Our lawyers have a full docket of cases, defending pastors from IRS censors, stopping a secularist group’s attempt to raise ministers’ taxes, ensuring that people of all faiths can build a house of worship without harassment.

We are fighting on. Thank you for staying by our side.
Sincerely,
kristina
