This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10 NIV
Love originates from God Almighty – its origins are not found in man. True love is based on Jesus Christ. Too many times we get things twisted; too many times we think love is all about us.
We erroneously believe that we go to church, do things for others, and so on, because we love God. We must understand the truth -- we do these things because God loves us (1 John 4:19)!
The love that we have for God is the result of His love for us. God is so good to us! His Word is His love letter to us and when we take in His Word we are taking in His love. The more we take His love in, the more it comes back out of us. We love others, we love ourselves, and we love God only because He first loved us.
It is imperative for us to understand that love originates with God. We could not love God if He did not first love us and do a work in us. He circumcises our hearts SO THAT we can love Him (Deuteronomy 30:6)! We are helpless; we are loveless, without Him! ONLY THROUGH HIM can we truly (Spiritually) love. Love is something that God births in us and it matures and grows as we abide in the Word. If we ignore the Word, it begins to die --- but with God we can always have a love resurrection!
