The Thin Veneer Of Civilization

The writer of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs, was fond of using the phrase, "the thin veneer of civilization" to describe mankind's condition in relation to his more fundamental savage makeup. The only thing that changes this reality is a person who receives Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord.

This veneer of civilization is being removed before our very eyes. We watch, as supposedly the brightest and best, lead the world to ruin. These “leaders,” in their wisdom, are simply puppets of the devil; wittingly or unwittingly, rejecting Christ Jesus and submitting to the devil; stealing, killing and destroying.

The history of mankind is one of ever increasing technology in the development of weapons of war and therefore, the ever increasing power of these weapons; bringing us to today, when mankind can destroy not only an adversary but the whole planet.

This is where we find ourselves today; in a world gone mad; on the brink of ruin and devastation; Watching as the increase of wickedness, the Lord warned about, occurs all around us with the love of most growing cold. The life-line is Christ Jesus; take hold of Him and He will take hold of you.
