BETWEEN THE LINES
WHAT I'M THANKFUL FOR IN 2017
Exclusive: Joseph Farah is grateful for God's 'seemingly unlikely servant in the White House'
It’s just a week before Thanksgiving – without a doubt one of my favorite holidays.
It’s a day designated for expressing our gratitude to the Almighty for all He has done for us – from creating our world to providing a Savior and Redeemer for all who fall short of His expectations and are truly repentant.
We gather around the table and feast with family and friends to celebrate Him and the abundance that only He provides.
The holiday is a beautiful thing, reminding us of our national heritage that provided a foundation of freedom and justice built on God’s promises and teachings. America has truly been blessed by God despite our personal and national shortcomings.
Once in a great while, we as a nation have something else to celebrate – and it rarely has to do with politics. But 2017 is exceptional in that way.
Not since the early 1980s has a national leader emerged who not only reminds us of those precious things, but one who shakes up the status quo, challenges emerging new false cultural orthodoxies and seeks to return the country to its foundations based on the rule of law and will of the people.
That’s what President Donald J. Trump has done in 2017 since being sworn in as the 45th president of the United States.
He didn’t have to do it. And he was, in many ways, an extremely unlikely figure to fill that role – an extremely wealthy man who would not have been on anyone’s top 10 list of spiritually motivated Americans. But God works in mysterious ways, confounding those incensed and in rebellion against Him.
And that’s why I conceived the Thank Trump campaign in this season – to show gratitude to one of His chosen vehicles for a reprieve from the ways of those who are wise in their own eyes.
I know how foolish this campaign will be portrayed by those in rebellion against God’s ways.
“Donald Trump!” they will derisively ask, “a tool of God?”
But look at the record of accomplishment. It’s simply undeniable. Not since Ronald Reagan led the refreshment of the American spirit 36 years ago by radically altering America’s cultural and political drift from the nation’s inspired foundations have we seen such national blessing.
In less than 10 months in office, we count 149 major accomplishments that have set a new course, breaking from a path toward national judgment and ruin.
It was with great personal optimism that I welcomed the Trump candidacy. Yet, I could not have imagined the extent of such rapid change. Trump has responded to the challenge like a force of nature. And it’s only to be expected he would face the enormous, unprecedented opposition his actions and attitude have aroused.
With that said, and with Thanksgiving only a week away, let me make clear that we remember first to prayerfully praise God for the pardon He has provided Americans and the people of the world with His seemingly unlikely servant in the White House. Indeed, thank Him for all the blessings he has bestowed upon us and those to come in His future Kingdom – the ultimate time of refreshing, peace, justice, restoration and rest.
And, for those millions of Americans who comprehend what I am expressing here, let us also be a source of real encouragement to President Donald Trump for taking on this challenge so effectively and with such great determination against all odds.
It’s a simple thing to take part in this campaign. It only takes a minute or two. There’s no cost. And it is, I believe, another chance for us to express ourselves loudly amid the cacophony of protest the president faces.
Yes, thank God, always – especially in this season of Thanksgiving. And, yes, Thank Trump.
