His Story
Jennifer Woodley
‘They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross.’ Mark 15:21 (NRSV)
A passer-by, who was preoccupied with his own life, his own story, suddenly and unexpectedly became caught up in Jesus’ story. There is no avoiding his presence. Instead, Simon of Cyrene is compelled to become a part of something far bigger than himself. There is little doubt the experience of carrying Jesus’ cross and then watching him suffer cruelly by crucifixion, would have altered him deeply.
Somehow, in some way, we have all become part of his story, and we will never be the same. Jesus’ story changes lives; it changes our entire life meaning and purpose - for the better.
Our lives are made complete and fulfilling in him. Just as Jesus’ appearance drew Simon of Cyrene, so his appearance in our lives draws us into a new way of living that is transforming us from glory to glory. His Story is what history is all about.
His Holy Spirit compels us to become deeply entwined with the greatest man in the greatest story this world has ever known. As we surrender to the Spirit’s unction, we are changed into the image of God himself. What an incredible privilege!
‘Thank you, Father God, because of Jesus my life now has meaning and purpose. Help me to surrender myself fully each day to you, for without your presence in my life there is no life at all.’
