I Want to Be Just Like You Dad

What do you think is the highest form of worship? Have you ever considered the goal of resembling your heavenly Father as the highest form of worship?

We have all heard the phrase, “imitation is the highest form of flattery.” Every father loves to hear their son say, “I want to be just like you dad.” 

Do you think our heavenly Father would love hearing that from us? Can you think of a higher form of worship? 

So, how do we resemble our Father in heaven? We examine the life and actions of Jesus. 

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature… Heb 1:3 ESV

“…Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father…” John 14:9

“If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:7 ESV

“…If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” John 8:19 ESV

So, what comes to mind when we think of Jesus? 

Do we think of judging ourselves and others, enforcing the law and punishment, counting our sins, fault finding, condemning, acting self-righteous and rejecting and avoiding the lost as sadly many outside the church think we do? That is not Jesus, so that cannot be the Father.

I see my Father in Jesus. He is full of love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, grace, humble strength and a desire that all come to a saving knowledge of the truth. 

So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. John 7:16 ESV

Abba, I want to be just like you to this lost and dying world. Let your love, compassion, mercy, grace and forgiveness be what they see in me. May it draw them to you.
