UK: Muslim leader fears anti-Muslim “backlash” after Muslim rape gang conviction
“It’s not a ‘Muslim issue’ but they are mostly Muslims. So are Isis – they might not represent what Islam says but you can’t deny they’re Muslims.”
Ahad is ignoring the massive justification for this behavior within the Qur’an and Sunnah, as I detail here.
This makes it overwhelmingly likely that he and his colleagues are not going to do a thing about this problem within their communities; how can they, without challenging Islam itself?
And so instead, Ahad is, like so many other Muslim leaders before him, claiming victim status, and worrying about a “backlash” against Muslims that seldom if ever materializes.
“Muslim community ‘absolutely disgusted’ by Newcastle grooming gang,” by Lizzie Dearden, Independent, August 11, 2017:
Mr Ahad said fellow Muslims should not feel the need to “apologise” for grooming gangs, adding: “Did the white community come out and condemn the crimes of Jimmy Savile?”…Faith leaders across Newcastle have urged the public not to “cast blame on entire communities” in the wake of a police operation exposing the sexual exploitation of more than 700 victims across north-east England….Dipu Ahad, Newcastle councillor, said local Muslims were “absolutely disgusted” by their crimes and feared a possible backlash.“It’s not a ‘Muslim issue’ but they are mostly Muslims,” he told The Independent.“So are Isis – they might not represent what Islam says but you can’t deny they’re Muslims.”
